11 Jun Spilling the beans on a great coffee liqueur
#eatsouth is our celebration of the amazing food and drink larder that we have on our doorstep. The challenge is thrown down every few weeks – cook with this local ingredient, and share the results. On this occasion, we did Conker Coffee Liqueur and Black Cow Vodka. Sadly most of the team just drank the ingredient so we don’t have many recipes for you! Typical!
SPILLING THE BEANS ON A GREAT COFFEE LIQUEUR
Spirits are soaring across Britain in more ways than one, as our love affair with gin shows no signs of slowing down.
We’re quaffing it in record-breaking amounts, in every flavour from pear drop and pink grapefruit to seaweed and saffron.
And, as its popularity increases, ever more imaginative gins and gin liqueurs are being produced by small-batch craft distillers.
Rupert Holloway set up Conker Spirit in 2014 to produce innovative spirits from Dorset’s first gin distillery.
Their Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur eschews nasty additives and flavourings and aims itself squarely at people who love good coffee and care about its impact on both the environment and the farmers who produce it.
Made with a blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian coffee beans, it packs a proper espresso punch backed up with notes of vanilla, caramel and demerara sugar.
Delicious on its own over ice or as a replacement for other coffee liqueurs in cooking (it makes a gorgeous tiramisu), you can also shake Conker Cold Brew with chilled water and pour over ice for a super easy and ever so good Espresso martini.
Brilliantly, this award-winning coffee liqueur is also available in decaf, for those who love coffee without the buzz!
Versatile, ethically produced and delicious, what’s not to love about this beautifully packaged coffee liqueur? We were hard-pressed not to quaff the lot, but we did manage to save a little to try out in recipes, which we share here.
