16 Mar Time to breathe
If you’re in need of some breathing space and a break away from everything except your other half, a little luxury (bitesize in fact) and the sound of crashing waves, then look no further than Whitsand Bay in Cornwall.
Miniature, cosy, luxury boltholes with hot tubs and log burners, all perched on a cliff edge overlooking a windswept Cornish coast. Perfect escapism.
We stayed at Moontide from the stunning Unique Home Stays website – a go-to when we’re looking for a holiday cottage in the UK. It’s a stylish site with clear navigation and everything needed to inspire a visitor to book – including live availability, prices and lots of photos. Moontide is just one of a number of Whitsand Bay cottages in their portfolio.
Our stay was a birthday break in January. Despite a stay in the depths of winter, the cottage was the essence of cosy – small, comforting and warm with a roaring log burner, huge bathtub, soft lights and lots of blankets.
Sliding doors on two sides deliver panoramic views over the coast from every room except the bathroom and you’re blissfully unaware that anyone else is sharing the Bay with you at all. Even the bedroom had doors which opened on to the patio ensuring you wake up to tea and toast in bed with the sound of waves crashing on the shore below.
At 50-something and married for 30 years we headed off on Saturday morning for a drive, a walk along some Cornish beaches and a pub lunch. Young couples would probably stay curled up on the sofa or stretched out on a sun lounger for the whole weekend.
The only downside to heading off for the day is the access to the cottage which the website warns is “a steep uneven walk down from the car parking space and similarly from the property to the beach, which may be unsuitable for the less able.” Even forewarned we weren’t quite prepared for the nature of this climb, especially carrying suitcases and groceries. But the cardio workout was worth it when we put the key in the door.
The visitor book featured more than its share of brides-to-be announcing that they had just been proposed to at Moontide. Clever men! Who could say no to someone who books a stay at Whitsand Bay for a marriage proposal – the epitome of romantic stylish simplicity.
It’s not cheap to book a Moontide stay – but it is perfect for a special celebration or just when you need some time to breathe. We’d recommend it.
